The mechanic that looked at my SVT focus says it would cost 1100$ for parts and labor to replace the intake manifold. He says 450$ is labor.... the rest is parts. I haz a sad... Now im trying to decide whether to sell the car as is and move on or get the repairs.

If you're able to source the required expensive parts for much less, would your mechanic be willing to use those instead?

Dude its a SVT focus. Do not sell. Find a way to get that fixed with used parts or whatever. Glue it back together. Dont give up.

I would fix it myself but I have Zero knowledge of an engine beyond removing spark plugs. I am probably not going to have him do the work and instead trade it as is to a dealership who has an 05civic si near me. I used to own one of those and I really miss it. Since I bought this Focus it has been nothing but problems.

Haha the SVT in my mind doesnt have such a good reputation. I bought this in April and it has been more of a problem than anything in my life. Since I bought it I have had to put more time and money into repairs for it than all three of my past hondas combined (i had 9 years of honda ownership before this) I found a nice 05 Si for sale near me and I may just tow the SOB SVT up there and get out from under it.

Thanks dude! this one is very helpful and I may use it. I am still waiting on an itemized list of parts this mechanic says I need. I have been communicating with a guy that is an SVT Guru so i know that most of what this mechanic is telling me on labor is BS. Aparently this repair could be done in an hour... and I am guessing 450$ an hour is not the going rate

Dude, go post about this on FocalJet.

Also, get a quote on parts from Steve at Tasca Auto. He's seriously the man when it come to the keeping the SVT running.

As far as I'm aware, the manifold is not complicated, just knuckle-busting. Get a friend to help you, offer them beeer it usually works. Have fun together on a Saturday fixing you car and saving tons on shop labor.

Don't sell. It's a 10 y/o performance variant of a budget car. They were hammered on and needs love. Manifold is easy. Remove the passenger side motor mount and it'll give you some space if you nudge the car forward. The manifold is connected by rubber connectors and one bolt on the back. Otherwise it's an easy job. You just have to disconnect the imrc motor cable and a few vaccuum lines and a booster line. The part left connected to the motor is fine. Are you sure the manifold has a crack in it? Sometimes backfires would just blow off the rubber connectors it the manifold just needed to be pushed back in and tightened.
For everyones info just because it's plastic means nothing, super lightweight and used long and short runners to improve the power delivery. It's adjustable with a tune as well. Cosworth did lots of work on these motors breathing.
I'd keep it personally, I kept mine when I bought my st it's that good. Nice and analog esp with an LSD installed
